Hunting A New Spot

First hunt was a Friday, I was supposed to go out in the morning but when I arrived at the spot there were already hunters there… So I went to another spot late in the afternoon, collared up my dogs and saddled up my horse and away we went.

About 40 minutes in my dogs tracked off and not long after they came up treed so I started heading towards them and when I got there they were holding a nice solid boar. I dealt to him and headed back to my horse, he weighed 110lb.

My uncle was also coming over that night for a morning hunt Saturday, we got up early to beat the heat and arrived at the spot. It was the first time we’d been there so we went to check it out, we were walking along a forestry road that was up-hill the whole way a good few km, once we got to the top at a skid sight we sat down to let the dogs have a wind, they went out for a look and after a few minutes we could hear something crashing through towards us, then we heard a bit of grunting.

One of the dogs were gaining on the pig chasing it right towards us and about 100 m away the dog came up treed. One other dog arrived seconds later and we had it, another nice hooked up boar and to make it even better it was right by the road and a down-hill carry the whole way to the truck. That boar also weighed 110lb. It was a mean as 2 days hunting with my uncle Nick Baker and step dad Jimmy Holster.
