Fighting Off The Flu

I had hunted this particular forestry heaps of times and new there was a good boar kicking around. I could never pin point where he was living or put the dogs on him for a crack.

It was a Sunday morning, I didn’t have anything planned, I had the flu really bad and wasn’t feeling great. Never the less I was sitting at home thinking where I will go for a hunt. I rang my mate Mike to see if he was keen to go for a look up the forestry and sure enough he said he would be round in half an hour.

We loaded the dogs up and headed to the forestry where we collared the dogs up and let them run. They worked a couple of big faces and gullies but no such luck. I had hunted this particular forestry heaps of times and new there was a good boar kicking around. I could never pin point where he was living or put the dogs on him for a crack.

We drove down the last road to a skid site where we sat for half an hour while the dogs worked a big native gully and came back to the truck. Mike and I were talking away for about another 10 minutes, not really worrying about what the dogs were doing.

Mike looked at the gps and said looks like Kais off again, not even a second after he said that kai threw up a bail and the 2 younger dogs got there and were full noise bailing as well. I said to Mike “bugger it we don’t have a gun”.

Mike waited at the truck while I rushed down and got to the dogs and here was this big boar chomping his tusks while the dogs are standing well clear. The boar saw me and went to break away and all the dogs in flew after and grabbed him. I jumped on his back and shoulder stuck him. Yehoo! He was down and out. He got carried out to the truck and taken home for the scales and he weighed in at 168lb we were wrapped.
